The Lake of Timeless Thought

For years, I've had ideas of the mind being like a raging river. Different streams that flowed into it were different thoughts, like creativity, intelligence, humor, etc. I decided to put those thoughts into a poem.

The River flows.

 

Thousands of multi-colored streams

Collect in the waters to swirl and mix.

In the pull, Millions of tiny images

Reflect off the currents from nowhere.

 

Springs of inspiration and hope

Overflow, pushing their sparkling waters

Into the glowing, liquid light

Of the River's swift force.

 

It travels along, winding through

Lush, green, rolling hills

To its final destination.

In the distance, a glimmer of blue.

 

The speck grows, sparkling in the sun.

As it comes closer, its appearance is clear:

A Lake of shimmering water.

It splashes merrily against tall grass.

 

Millions of other rivers approach,

Pooling into this ancient Lake

Of timeless thought and emotion.

All is moving, yet all is still.

 

Finally, the River splashes in

With a crash of crystalline water.

Empathy and knowledge spread

To all of the connected Rivers.
