The Four Winds

The Four Winds

A Poem by Justin Tobey
"

I wrote this poem to describe the four wind spirits of Greek mythology: Zephyr, Boreas, Notos, and Eurus. Each was associated with on season. Zephyr with Spring, Boreas with Winter, Notos with Summer, and Eurus with Autumn. The final character mentioned,

"

Four winds were locked away within

The mountain's rocky wall.

They sang and sighed and often grinned,

With hopes and dreams like all.

The first was Zephyr of the West;

His call brought forth the spring.

From Heaven to the Isles Blest

Dawn's lighting he does bring.

The next was Northern Boreas,

The mighty, winged man.

His ice-cold breath and frosted wings

Brought winter to the land.

The third was Notos of the South.

All heat and flames he brought.

Destroying crops and bringing drough,

The summers dry and hot.

The final, Eurus of the East,

Unlucky was his name.

He brought the rains and clouds unleashed,

Rejecting sunlight's fame.

With ancient spells and castle high,

Aeolus ruled the winds.

For only he could hear their cry

And free the souls of sin.
