To Understand

To Understand

A Poem by Melinda
"

I wrote this for a grade in English, my teacher submitted it, and it was published shortly after

"

I should quit writing,

like everyone tells me

but when my words are put to paper

I can't abscond the rhyming

Who are you to judge my life

until you've walked that mile in my shoes

been through the ridicule I have

put up with the words of these fools

Can you see the phantoms of my past

as horrible as it was

their soulless, colorless eyes staring

as coldly as a vulture does

They want so badly to tell you

the reason I can't write

that has so much to do with the violence

of the dreams I have at night

But these dreams do not make me who I am

only the sands of time will tell

If you can truly read between the lines

and listen to my story well.

Aw, this was really cute and inspirational. ^___^ I love the line "But these dreams do not make me who I am" Very nice and congratulations on being published! =) Keep writing, for sure!

First of all, never stop writing. You're already doing it right. I think most writers on this forum would tell you they've felt something along this vein before. Beautiful first submission!

I'm usually more into free verse, but this is well written and, as a fellow writer, I appreciate the sentiments you express here.
