The Girl With The Suitcase

The Girl With The Suitcase

A Story by C.R.Turner

She has a suitcase - the biggest one I have ever seen!
A suitcase full of dictionaries, encyclopaedias and manuals.
Such incredible knowledge - all there,
within easy reach of her playful fingertips.
She's a clever one is this!

But wait! Oh no - she stands at the bottom of a huge staircase!!
It must be miles high and twenty!!
And it twists and turns so sharply - why, if I didn't know better
I would say this staircase goes alllllll the way to heaven
- certainly the moon at least!

But the suitcase is SOOOO heavy - Oh what's a girl to do?
She thinks to herself sternly: "Now, Lucy! Think logically!
All you have to do is look in one of the books
and it will tell me what to do!"
She let out a soft giggle. It's too easy!

But easy it wasn't. For poor Lucy sat there on the ground for hours
opening book after book,
flicking page after page,
reading index after index,
and do you think the books would tell her? No.
They were staying tight-lipped on this one, it seemed!

"It's getting dark", said Lucy suddenly out loud.
She sighed. "Oh how will I ever get up those stairs??"
She turned to the books. "It's not fair -
if you can't tell me how to get you up the stairs,
then how can I ever bring you????"
But the books said nothing.

"Good evening", said a little white rat out of nowhere.
Lucy turned around with a start.
"Excuse me, gotta rush", said the rat trying to climb over
one of the books. (and nearly falling on his back!)
"Why, where you going, you adorable little mouse?" Lucy inquired.
The rat stopped dead, and turned around slowly.

"My dear young lady," he frowned, "I am no mouse, I am a rrrrrrrrrrat if you please -
and a RAT that's in RATher a hurry", he added jokingly, as he continued his clambering.
but Lucy didn't see the joke. Instead she cried:
"Oh what am I to do? It's so late and dark and cold and hungry and tired!!
How will I ever carry this wretched suitcase up the stairs??!!!"

But the rat was not interested in Lucy's dilemma.
He just whistled as he skipped up the first step,
then the second,
then the third...

"Well thank YOU very much!" shouted Lucy and put her head firmly into her hands!! "Ooh!!"
"You'll think of something, my dear" The rat's voice echoed down from above. "Gotta rush now!"
She looked up.
And all she could see was that silly mouse jumping from step
to step
to step
to step..

"Oh, what would he know anyway?" she sobbed.

This was to cute, lol..I think that putting to much stress on one situation doesn't help us see the whole picture, when everything could be simple. Very good job:)

Why do we over-complicate things so? :D Thanks for the rev, Kimmy!

As human beings we seem to do this a lot..lol...You are very welcome.
LOL. Sometimes the answer is right in front of our faces, so obvious, but we seek some drawn out and convoluted answer, and fail to see that we had the correct answer all along.
