Mystery Train

Mystery Train

A Poem by C.R.Turner

I am a hapless passenger
on a giant speeding train.
I don't know where it's going,
but I know it's far away.

I joined the train in Allen
to take a little pleasure ride.
It looked just like a kiddie's toy
but grew and grew in size.

I can look out of the window
walk up and down the car,
talk to fellow passengers -
faces changing by the hour.

Sometimes there is beauty -
wide and open space beyond;
sometimes suffocating tunnels -
dark, meandering and long.

The train is not for stopping
it just charges on and on
no junctions, points or fuel breaks
just an engine on the run.

I could try break the window
or maybe scream to "Let me off!"
but curiosity wryly smiles
and plumps my pillow soft!

There is a destination,
I feel it drawing near.
That's all I know, no more control -
no brakes, no lights, no steer.

Loved the cadence to this! The final stanza implies impact to me, and that is exactly what it provided. Great write CR, enjoyed it a lot!
