Looking BackA Poem by C.R.TurnerWritten during a crossing of the Irish Sea, 2012
Through the ship's salty glass,
I gaze upon the land of my birth for the first time ever with the eyes of a stranger.. How has it come this far that with each nautical mile added between us I feel closer to home? Was it never my home but only now realised? Or did I move unbeknownst somewhere along the way? Neither. The land of my birth is just a rock. Cold and unfeeling. Ignorant of my desires. But what I carry in my heart is warm, soft and travels with me belongs to no sandy shore and enjoys its own weather.
