Mask

Mask

A Poem by silentsmiles

Please,

release me.

What did I do,

that made you hate me so much?

You trapped me

I can never escape.

Born to please you,

but with each breath I disappoint.

"What is the point?" You ask.

But still I try.

I break my back,

only to come up short.

I work til I pass out,

but the work is never finished.

I rip out my heart,

but you still do not care.

My smile fades away,

and I reach for the mask I know so well.
