The Day AfterA Story by Silent_S C R I P TDid the prompt with a friend of mine, based around characters we created together. Short scene of how the other is reacting the day after the other has died tragically. The past twenty four hours had plunged Kaito into a hell
that he had once believed he would never have to experience in his lifetime.
His typically calm resolve had shattered the moment he had watched the fatal bullet
pierce Eddy’s chest. He hadn't been able to stop crying since the moment he had
watched him breathe his final breaths. He hadn't wanted to let go. He couldn't
leave him. Eddy needed him! He was all Eddy had! No! He couldn't be dead. Kaito
refused to believe it, they just didn't understand. Eddy couldn't die! Eddy didn't
die. He couldn't leave him like this… Kai needed him. He had screamed at them
as they pull their bodies apart and tried to return to the arms of his would be
lover but found the arms of his parents instead. Strong and steady, he had
collapsed against his Mother and Father and had screamed at the world, begging
desperately to have his Nana back. That was yesterday.
His grief had silenced itself, subdued the moment he had been
taken home and managed to stumble back to his room. Every wall he had run into
had presented itself as a barrier to his solace. He had to fight the desire to
slump to the ground and never move again upon every impact and his tear clouded
vision made each wall unavoidable. When he had finally made it to his place of
refuge it took everything he had to remain on his feet and close the door
behind him. He wanted to sink into cold oblivion and wake up when this all
became nothing more than a nightmare. He took a staggered half step toward his
bed only to falter. He didn’t dare lie on that bed. The bed they had shared
since childhood. A choked sob cut through the silence of the room as he
collapsed to the floor and wrapped his arms around himself. A deluge of tears
found him then, hot like boiling water, unrelenting and desperate. “Eddy.” He
whispered, calling out the name of the one person who could make all his pain
go away. He just wanted it to end. Why wouldn’t it just end? Had he slept? He couldn’t be sure. The concept of time began
to blur as he lay on the floor, his horrible memories constant playing through
his vision, repeatedly ripping his heart from his chest and tearing it to
shreds. In time the tears stopped flowing and he simply stared at the wall
across the room. His body felt heavy, like he wouldn’t be able to move even if
he wanted to. Kai could just barely recall the light fading slowly from the
room as he lay there. He stared at the wall all through the night, eyes wide
open. Was he even still alive? He couldn’t be so sure anymore. He couldn’t feel
anything but aching sadness. A sense of icy numbness had slide over his body in
absence of the hot tears. Fate had taken away his best friend, and potential
lover, and had given him something new. Grief was his new lover, and it had
taken him by the heart and left him paralyzed on the floor. Leaving him with
nothing but its wrath for a companion. © 2013 Silent_S C R I P TAuthor's Note
