Flight of Dreams

Flight of Dreams

A Poem by Sid

Place two coins over my eyes
like tarnished copper shutters

obstructing windows of my soul
I cannot see beyond self worth
to fathom value of your mind

Staring, with one eye open
Here's a penny for your thoughts

Garner twice penance from closed lid
See life last with both eyes open
and risk my two cents rejected

I like the coin play here. The coins becomes shutters, windows and then again the pennies that they were to begin with. What was once a acceptable behavior (placing coins on eyes of the dead), is now a flippant thumbing of the nose at old behaviors. Humor, dark and snarky bring a good blend to this poem. Star

I like the different ways you use the coins almost as props in your poem. They take on many roles, and have different meanings. Great job.
