The ReaperA Poem by SidThe shadow lurks in the distance Feeds off my fear and pain The ripples of darkened melancholy Rise as waves on the surface
The reaper of my life silently floats As its swarm hollows me Its gleeful scythe a mockery of joy It gnaws at my tattered soul
Beaten and bruised my throbbing heart Sings a lullaby of unquenched chaos As my world around me dims and decays My burdened legs can carry me no more
As death clutches my throat in a steely grip The reaper lets out a cry of mirth Even as my imminent death propels its growth And it grows stronger on my despair
It stands before me and the scythe sways Blood flows from my body as it seeks escape The reaper smiles and swings the scythe And I fall to the ground motionless © 2013 SidAuthor's Note
