The Fling In Spring

The Fling In Spring

A Poem by Siddhartha

I saw her at the Crosswords
Her eyes a glistening blue
She seemed engrossed in a Cecilia Ahern
I followed her eyelashes
as they delineated an arc in space
She glanced up
I resisted the urge to look down
and followed her gaze
She smiled
And so it went...

Outside the crosswords we sat
at Cafe Coffee Day
Black coffee I ordered
Cafe frappe she said
I lighted a cigarette
as she let out a smile
We chatted like old friends
She animatedly, I reticent
She talked about a myriad things
and I nodded attentively
looking at her devilish blue eyes
Gosh, those eyes
And so it went...

On the second Sunday of February
I asked her out
for a movie none of us had a clue about
Old trick I know
But who cares
When spring is in the air
and the heart dares
Who cares?
And thereafter at her door
A clumsy goodbye, an awkward kiss
which led
to something more
And so it went...

Numerous meetings followed
in the fragility of spring
while hardened summer crept in
One day she called
in the dead of the night
choking back tears
she said - I am leaving
I have won a scholarship
I'll see you around -
And thus we parted
and here I am
lamenting...
The fling in spring

the way you describe her is mystifying-- taking such little details that escape our attention with fleeting moments, you capture them as hold onto them as if they are the defining moments of your introduction with this woman.

it's almost movie-like; i wonder if i have even been studied so closely before. That would be an honor, and a gift.

Beautiful words Sid, you're all Love. Stay this way, forever... even on departure.

I do love the alternatig light fluidity in romance gently unfolded here with words drawn in the bow of taut reality~ you compliment the dual descriptive aspect very well~

A fling indeed. Such romance when the thing is ongoing, but when hearts change with seasons it's a different story. Enjoyed.
