The Soldier's Song

The Soldier's Song

A Poem by Siddhartha
"

Another attempt at a short

"
Mortar shells, battle-cries

Sky's aflame, jets fly, the wounded cry

Death's certain

But still I will try

My country, Motherland

For you I shall gladly die

Well if it's ironic, I like it..If it's not, just well... I hate wars much like most people and sometimes I feel the concept of a nation is misleading..We are humans first, aren't we? Anyways, as a poem, a delightful shorty. The quick atmosphere building, the quick emotional turmoil and reassurance and the hint of patriotism to whiff it out..Well done Sid

I feel like I'm there on the battlefield... a soldier's eyes meet mine, and his eyes cry all the colors of this poem. Beautiful and real.

Nice dedication. Though there are certain metric buffs, it's altogether good to read, and kudos for the subject too. Keep writing.

.
. indeed ... be it the war against disrespectful intruders ... or poverty and illiteracy ... a citizen must be ready for battle ... a totally inspiring piece of poetry ...

Nice little piece. I wonder if you have ever been to war? War is loud, louder still, confusing, smelly, dirty, terrifying, hot, cold, thirsty, hungryand utterly miserable. That being said, if someo0ne invaded my coutry, they woul need to be seriously concerned about this old lady in her wheelchair, for I would use every bit of my extensive knowledge to help drive them from my land. FYI: Motherland is usually capitalized, because it stands in for the proper name of the country.
