The Lover's Lament

The Lover's Lament

A Poem by Siddhartha

She was an angel descended from the heavens
Dressed in the loveliest dresses of silk
Her smile lit up the sky and scorched the Earth
She smelled like the exquisite morning rose
And walked in small graceful steps of a doe
She bathed in the freshness of the wind
And shined in the radiance of the Sun
Her fingers felt like the morning dew
Her smile the whole world craved to see
And hear her whisper sweet nothings in my ears
When her bosom heaved
Tremors ran through the hearts of men
Making them slaves to her feelings
And when she sang
She stirred up a whirlpool of emotions
Her sweet voice rising in a contralto
And tugging at the very heartstrings

But she went away on a clear sunny day
Without a kiss or even a parting goodbye
And hasn't come back since
I have been searching for her everywhere
All my searches coming to nought
For she resides in the heavens above
Far from where she can be sought

The poem set sails with a positive note but at the end makes the reader sad of the fact that the glorious one that was at heart is now no more and the search is at nought.

nice!! you contrast the blissful moments with her to the poignance of the search only to twist it on us in the last two lines! making it a very bittersweet read indeed, the wonder juxtaposed with a subtle sadness - searching but unable to find... great poetry!!
