Carpe Diem! Or How You Let Go Of the World and Held onto MeA Poem by SiddharthaCome with me then, and we will leave For the world is gone, all flesh and bone A moment ago I was hesitant But I saw your eyes, and they beckoned I have seen desire in them, and love and joy Have measured it by the light of dawn Found its shining luster sweep into the horizon For in lonely nights have I walked Flanked by buildings that sap the juice of life I have seen beggars prowling the streets Feeding on the leftovers of capricious greed A greed that cannot be satiated Craving for a vicarious joy they don’t need In pursuit of which the night bleeds Come with me then, and I shall take your hand I shall be the picaresque hero of our story And you shall be its valiant heroine And we will burn the past into shreds of nothingness While I sing a song to soothe your bitter heart While I sing a song to soothe your bitter hurt For in blinding summers have I seen People latched into their oyster shell homes Afraid to leave lest the world swallows them whole Living their lives in unadmitted agony Knowing neither the crests of joy nor the troughs of pain Knowing not what it takes, knowing not what one can Come with me then, while there is still time Time to jump off proud cliffs To take long forgotten streets To crash against the scream of waves To breathe in the life of sleeping seas A time to burn the past in ashes of black and white And in the still darkness find the hidden light © Siddhartha, 2013
