Sea of Green

Sea of Green

A Poem by Connor

a leaf weighed down by a heavy load
beneath which it glistens green in the sunlight.
a sprout bursting forth from the earth
firmly rooted, and reaching toward infinite sky
in a field, surrounded by thousands, millions.
sprouts all coming forth from the cold damp dirt.
discouraged by the twisted old firmly rooted
trees as nothing, no one, of no value.
looked down upon by the wrinkled and
knotted rough dark bark, with ideas
carved steadfastly in the trunk. but one day
these sprouts will grow tall and strong, out of nothing
but a seed they will reach towards the burning stars.
wind will blow new seeds across the open earth.
the older trees will make room for the new growths,
so young but wise in their struggles. these trees
will grow taller then any before them, and their
seeds will blow free, for all to embrace for
it is these tall and mighty trees, who through
all their hardship and struggle prevailed, that a
new world will be shaped.
