VicissitudesA Poem by Augustus
After the storm’s menace the sky must clear
Keeping at bay its mighty thund'rous wrath The sun-rays must shed their long standing fear And through dark clouds thread their luminous path To every man who blindly makes his way Through dark shadowy malice of the night The pale and quiv'ring moon, silver and grey Does guide the traveler with its benign light To those dark shadows that moon has to yield Its glory wanes: It vanishes at length But as it walks across the starry field It glows and waxes back to former strength The ruthless sun destroys lush green meadows And bakes the earth into barren wastelands But underground in sweet scented shadows Lie sleeping seeds of future green grasslands Lost seafarers must find islands of hope And desert lands must have an oasis In darkness when we struggle, toil and grope The end of that tempestuous road is Bliss The tides of fortune change eternally Joy follows sorrow, respite follows strife Life ends in death, but ironically Death itself always gives birth to new life © 2010 AugustusFeatured Review
