By the River RhineA Poem by Augustus
The path was lush, the sun was high
The playful river flowing The waves cradled the golden rays With youthful faces glowing The people moved, the mallards swam But time for me stood still For right beside me, hand in hand There bloomed a daffodil The air was calm, the flowers blushed Their perfume filled the air The only one my mind discerned Adorned her silken hair My heart, a quiv'ring liquid was When jeweled words she spoke Still honeyed sound they in those scenes That memories evoke Our hearts were locked in an embrace As we fed splendid swans How profusely I thanked our fate For that one golden chance The swans with noble grace sped on Across the river streaming So has my life moved under me And I have been dreaming I fear not constraints that bind me Spatial and temporal For my love is pristine and pure Profound and eternal With its meanderings, the Rhine Must meet the steadfast sea So shall our love survive the storms And she'll be one with me © 2010 AugustusFeatured Review
