MistakesA Poem by Augustus
I wander sheepishly midst these ruins...
Each little relic, every shard of every broken mirror Has its own special place in the trophy cabinet of my long forgotten dreams Every once in a while a shard stabs my foot Reminding me of where I stumbled years ago With every crimson drop, a lesson learned Stripped naked at every turn by hard earned wisdom The sardonic twist of Fate's lips Even as I longed to press them against mine Is immortalized in every broken mirror As I feed off her scraps and call it a feast Was there ever a salve as potent as Denial? No morphine to match Forgetfulness Pushing it all under a carpet of Words As my mediocrity becomes my Muse I leave the ruins with a shrug and a shake of the head I've bought new mirrors to hang on the wall
