Ignorance of the Mind

Ignorance of the Mind

A Poem by Jennifer Warnock
"

About loosing inocence

"

She was only about twelve years old,

even though she did not act the age.

She was still innocent.

She had no idea how cruel the world could be,

how wrong people could think.

No idea why what happened was wrong.

What was suppose to be a happy day

turned out to be a horrible one.

Why someone who she looked up to

could do such a thing to her.

Now she can not even look back,

can not stand to be in her own home.

The worst was not over,

even though she tried to forget.

Every day was a deeper slash,

was something that she could not face.

With no one to turn to,

she was lost in this hole.

Her innocence was taken,

her whole story changed.

A fight within herself had taken over,

a frightful thought developed in her mind.

Something that could help end the pain.

End the suffering,

end every thought.

The only way out,

the one way to end it all.

To do what one had to do,

could open the eyes

to the people around

who so ignorantly denied.
To long for this peace,

is what set her mind to it.

Now she is away

and the man still did not face

what he had done wrong

to this innocent little girl.

I want to know if I should work on my imagry more or the dialogue more. If I should put more metaphors into it?

I like the poem as is... raw and gritty, but that is what adds to the emotional power of the poem... it is an ugly situation you speak of and needs to be addressed without sugar coating... I can never understand how someone can do such an horrific thing, even sadder when the kid feels they are responsible.
