I Stand Alone

I Stand Alone

A Poem by Jennifer Warnock

I've fought the world,

I've fought for my life,

I've fought for the greater good

and I've fought for love.

I stand alone,

in this world.

I've fought for everything

and I stand alone.

I look out into the world

and I realize there's no difference.

So I face the world again

and I stand alone,

fighting a loosing battle,

fighting for life.

As humans we survive by

creating; fighting; loving; caring and destroying,

creating a perfect life,

fighting for that perfect life,

loving those in our lives

and caring for everyone in and outside our life,

then destroying everything you've worked for.

So I walk along this road,

fighting for everything I believe in

and I stand alone.

Walking blindly

towards a dead end.

Not knowing how much longer I can handle it,

to face this world.

My heart aches

for those who need help.

My soul calls out to help them,

but I'm not sure I can handle it.

Though I wish I could.

I am only one person,

with little power

and I stand alone.
