Uncluttered

Uncluttered

A Poem by by.alice.gwen
"

when a shared closet becomes a closet for one

"

The night you left

I repossessed my closet

spread myself out in relief

filled all your empty shelves

with pieces of me

tossed out those too-tight jeans

I hadn’t fit in for three years

and got rid of everything

that belonged to the person

I no longer was.

Now I can’t imagine

squashing and folding myself

back into half my size

to make room for someone else.

'.. got rid of everything - that belonged to the person - I no longer was.'

Wondering the truth of your words - they really do rebound from wall to person backwards and forwards as if come from repeated experiences. There's a caustic, honest wit here, an admission of foolishness now done, dusted and cleared away. Job done! I like the 'feel' of your language!

Appreciate the feedback! And the words are true, for me at least.

this poem really spoke to me. it really captures what I went through once upon a time after a horrible breakup and now I feel myself better than ever. I like the use of the jeans transition into the end.
