While Beauty Around Us Withers

While Beauty Around Us Withers

A Poem by Shobana Gomes
"

We think of all the ways we could save the lifeless now.

"

While beauty around us withers, a once-thriving yield

we chose to ignore

gathers the dust of neglect and abandonment.

We grow silent.

In every act of neglect

there remains the sigh of hope

in hearts to revive the lifeless.

We have erred and misjudged

we devoured time.

It is far too late, the world now despairs

while the storms raged

and winds raved

the fires of dissent

spread in all forms.

We live in regret.
