An Afternoon RejectionA Story by shoaib rafi
As I was having coffee this afternoon while sitting at the table, I looked outside. The tree in front of our house was swaying with the gentle breeze. A golden ray shone onto its branches, making the tree look like a piece of heaven. My heart filled with the beauty of nature. I could feel my eyes sparkling with joy as I listened to the melodious song of the birds on the golden tree.
I couldn't hold myself any longer. I ran out the door and approached the tree, only to find the atmosphere darkening. The sunshine was gone, and the birds had vanished. The sky was filled with thick clouds. Everything was gone! Nature recoiled from my presence like a butterfly fleeing from a hideous frog. Nature turns grey when it gets conscious of my existence. Now, I have no choice but to enjoy nature from the distant corner of my window. I hide behind the curtain, so the breeze, tree, birds, and sunshine do not know of my hideous existence. Do you think I will hate nature for despising me? Never. I still watch the tree and listen to the beautiful birds singing. I wonder, what do they sing about? Is it about their lovers? Are they thankful for their existence? Are they thanking God because they can fly? I focus on their song instead of thinking aimlessly about something beyond my imagination. Looking at the cotton-shaped thin clouds in the afternoon, I bring the brown coffee mug near my mouth and blow gently. My eyes get blurry as my glasses fog up... © 2024 shoaib rafi |
