~Day Three~ Undead

~Day Three~ Undead

A Chapter by Short.Nerd

Addy and I were asleep on the bus. We were in the second aisle of seats. I had my arm around her and her head was laying in my lap.  Everette and Zylan (one of the high schoolers) were behind us talking.  I heard half their conversation while I slept.

The bus jerked to halt but I was to lazy to wake up and make sure everything was alright.  I heard a cuss word mummbled, but still refused to get up.  Maybe, that was my real mistake.

I heard a growl and thats when my blue eyes popped open.  The bus driver, whom we all thought was 100% normal was heading towards us.  I screamed and so did the others.

This Undead didn't look like the last one.  The last one seemed like it had been dead for hundreds of years, this one seemed as if he could have died just yesterday (I sadly don't have a picture of him).

"I need your heart."  I growled at us, and Addy started crying again.  The poor girl was only six years old, but I think she was scarred for life.

"I don't give a damn if you need my heart."  Zylen shouted popping out of his seat.  "Because I need my heart too."  He grabbed his weapon of choice (a crowbar) and ran towards the Undead.  Addy covered her eyes, and I watched as Zylen killed the thing.

An Undead didn't die like humans died (I guess thats because they're already dead), they just stopped.  There wasn't any bleeding, or stopping of breaths.  One minute they were moving, and the next they weren't.

"What the hell, Everette?"  I screamed as we all stared in shock at the creature.  "I thought we were getting away from those things."

"We are.  We just have to fight through some first."  Everette told me and I glared at him.  As I look back, I see their wasn't any other way, but I was pissed off.  I needed to yell.

"That thing could have killed, Addy. She was too close to it."  Addy scootched over beside me and snuggled in closer.  "She could have died.  We could all die."  Tears streamed down my cheeks as I looked around the bus.

I noticed something then.  Everyone else besides me and Addy were guys besides one other, who was slightly younger than me.  She glared at me and rolled her eyes.  I knew she thought I was a drama queen, but I didn't care.

"She'll be in a lot of situations like that."  Everette told me, and I knew he was right.  "But you and I and everyone else will keep her safe.  I promise."

"Remember one thing.  Her life becomes before mine, and so does anyone else younger than me."  Everyone nodded as I said this.  "And if I'm dead, and Addy isn't safe with y'all, I swear I will come back as one of the Undead and you'll see an extremely pissed older sister."

"I hate to interrupt this love fest, but I think I see more of them coming."  Zylen pitched in and I looked out the window.  He was right, a whole group of them were coming our way.

"I'll drive this thing."  The older man said making his way towards the front of the bus.  "Y'all buckle up now, ya here?  This is gonna be a bumpy ride."

And indeed it was.

We ran over countless Undeads with Jeff (the older guy) driving.  Now that I look at him, he doesn't seem as old as I thought.  Maybe more in his thirties than forties.

Anyways, Jeff's idea was to simply runover everybody rather than go around.  I personally liked that idea except for a few reasons.

A. It was bumpy.

B. The bus did not have seat belts.

C. I felt like we were going to crash.

Other than that though it was very pleasent.

After a few hours of dodging abandoned cars, moving cars, and buildings we finally lost the Undead.  Now the only thing we had to decide on who wanted to drive next.

Everette said he would if know one else wanted to, but he looked tired.  I hadn't seen him get any sleep.  Zylan looked about the same as Everette did.

I looked around the surroundings.  It was an open road with fields on both sides.  Didn't look to difficult to drive through.  I thought I could handle it.

"I'll do it."  I said getting up.  "Someone sit by, Addy please."  I knew these people were beginning to think I was obsessed about her, but  I didn't care.  I wasn't losing another family member.

"I can do that, Avery."  Jeff answered as he got from his seat.  "I'll take good care of her too."  I smiled and nodded then went to the drivers seat.  I had no idea how to drive this, but I was about to learn.

Wish me luck!

I wish you luck! One thing I must mention:
"I need your heart." I growled at us (should be) "I need your heart." he growled at us.
Great job! I love the action in this, and the narrator is not a wimp like anyone else would be during a zombie invasion. Great work! Write the next chapter so I could see more of the action!

Good last line. Great chapter overall. If I was her, I wouldn't care, I'd be obsessed in making sure that my little sister was safe too. I didn't see any mistakes, but that doesn't mean there aren't any. Keep going with this. Can't wait to see what happens next.
