Chapter Seven: In The Devil's Shoes

Chapter Seven: In The Devil's Shoes

A Chapter by Short.Nerd

"What did you do to her?"  Arabelle shrieked in my ear while I was trying to relax at the park.  This was one of the few moments when I didn't have anyone I had to bother and could be by myself.

"Hi nice to see you too."  I replied rolling my sea-green eyes at her.  I knew this was going to get her even more mad, but I didn't care.  It wasn't my fault that our jobs were interfering with one another.

Arabelle frowned at me and put her hands on her hips.  She was wearing the exact same outfit from the first time I met her, and I couldn't help but wonder if this clothing selection was chosen if she were slightly mad.  If my memory is correct she wasn't thrilled with me on that day either.

"Don't change the subject!"  She told me slapping the back of my head.  I glared at her, but she didn't seem to notice.  "Ashtyn and Brayden were making good progress, then all day she ignored his calls and avoided him.  So what did you do?"

I shrugged trying to avoid answering.  I ran my hand through my black hair where she had hit me.  She had a pretty strong-arm, I guess it was from shooting those arrows.  Maybe they weren't just for show.  Who would have thought?

"Lets just say I'm evening up the score."  I told her, and I couldn't help but smirk slightly.  What can I say, I'm just a slight bit competitive in some things.  Of course, some people, or Devils, would disagree.

"Just tell me what you did so I can fix it."  Arabelle said sounding a bit  exasperated.  Part of me felt guilty, but I tried pushing that feeling away.  "She has a really good future with him, and a really good chance to help the world.  Why can't you see that?"  I scoffed at that.  Ashtyn's future didn't look so wonderful earlier now did it?

Arabelle frowned at me as she tried to figure out where the scoff came from.  I glared at her, and after a minute I got up and started walking away.  I really didn't feel like getting into a pointless argument.

"Where are you going?"  Arabelle asked running after me.  God, she really didn't give up did she?  "You can't just walk away from me."  Her eyes were turning a dark violet color as she glared at me.

"Watch me."  I answered wishing there was a brick wall nearby so I could pound my head into it.  The stupid park only had trees though, and I doubted mother nature wanted my blood all over her trees.  See, part of me is still good.

"Tad."  Arabelle told me grabbing my arm and pulling me back.  "Tell me what you did." Her voice was firm and determined.  I groaned and knew this was going to be a pointless discussion.  In the end one or both of us would end up disappearing.

"I showed her the future if she didn't make the deal."  I answered turning around to face her.  Arabelle's face went emotionless and she glanced at me with wide eyes.  "Your man Brayden wasn't exactly the best encouragement through it."

"What did you show her?" Arabelle demanded to know with a strand of her red hair falling in her face.  She still didn't show a single emotion as she spoke to me.  It was slightly creepy.  I thought Cupid's were suppose to be open books.

Part of me wanted to tell her what I showed Ashtyn, but another part of me wouldn't let that happen.   If I told Arabelle anything else she would go and undo it.  I couldn't let that happen.  I had finally gotten to Ashtyn,, and I wasn't about to let Arabelle screw it up.

So when I opened my mouth to speak I didn't tell the truth.  I didn't say what any decent guy would have, instead I told her what a jerk would say.   Or in this case, what a Devil would say.

"Wouldn't you like to know?"  I asked smirking at her and then slowly disappearing.  I could practically see the steam coming from Arabelle's ears.  Our next meeting would be fun.  If there even was a next meeting after all this.

Ok, wow. Tad is showing a different side of himself, isn't he? Great chapter. Will there be more of Jayden and Carter? Will he turn to them when he needs help? Hopefully he remembers why he is doing this, why he did this. For the love of his two best friends.
