Chapter Six: In The Devil's Shoes

Chapter Six: In The Devil's Shoes

A Chapter by Short.Nerd

Ashtyn's green eyes filled with horror and darkness.  Her small hand was wrapped around my wrist, and I smirked at her.  She was dreaming, but she didn't know it yet.  Dream manipulation was one way to get the job done.

"See this is why you need to make  a deal."  I told her pointing towards her little sister who was now 16.  She had black hair cut in a very short style and wore heavy eyeliner around her emerald-green eyes.  In a way, Jaci and Ashtyn resembled each other.

Jaci wore a skin-black shirt that had a white skull on it and showed off way to much cleavage, a pair of black skinny jeans, and a pair of black converses with a stick figure crying drown on them.  Jaci had black bracelets that jingled as she walked.

An older version of Ashtyn appeared.  For a young woman in her early twenties she looked tired of life.  Her green eyes that matched her sister's were filled with sorrow, and she looked stressed.  Ashtyn was wearing a light green sweater and dark blue jeans, with matching light green shoes.

"Jaci,  please."  The older version of Ashtyn said as the present day Ashtyn had her eyes glued to the scene.  "Please, stop being so difficult!  I don't need this."  The older Ashtyn's voice quivered a bit.  "Mom's funeral was hard for me too, but we don't have to take it out on each other."

Ashtyn looked down and bit her lip.  I knew she didn't expect to see that her mother was dead at such a young age, and I knew this was one of her biggest fears.  Jaci growing up without her parents there for her.

"Just leave me the hell alone!"  Jaci screamed at Ashtyn stomping her foot and glaring at her.  "Just because you were named my guardian doesn't mean we have to talk about things.  You can leave me alone just like Mom did.  I'll be fine."

"Why is Mom dead?"  The present day Ashtyn asked me.  I looked down at her and gave her a smug look.  I knew this was coming up.  If someone was dead in these, dreams, the victim always asked why.

"Because this is how life is going to be without your father in the picture."  I answered shrugging my shoulders.  The truth is I wasn't sure why her mother was dead, but I was betting it had to deal with a drunk driver.  That was just a hunch though.

"I can't do that!"  The older Ashtyn yelled back at her little sister.  "Your not fine, Jaci.  You're failing most of your classes, you've just been expelled, and all your friends have dropped off the face of this planet.  What's going on?"

Jaci crossed her arms over her chest and frowned at her big sister.  I could see this was going to be a problem for her if this future came true.  She wasn't use to having someone actually caring about what was going on in her life.  All Jaci knew was a mother who gave her more than enough money for food and a place to live.  That's it.

"Don't bother worrying about my problems." Jaci told her harshly.  "Worry about your own."  Her eyes narrowed to older Ashtyn's stomach, and she self consciouslypulled her sweater down.  "And worry about how you're going to get Brayden to be here."

"What does Brayden have to do with this?"  Present day Ashtyn asked me shooting me a glare, and I smirked.  Ashtyn was the type of girl who was afraid of falling for a guy.  She never wanted to open herself up to anyone.  She figure she was better off being on her own.  Plus, in the back of her mind she always worried that she would end up being left by the one she loved like her mother was.

"What do you think he has to with it?"  I questioned her and she looked down again.  I could tell she didn't like what she was seeing.  I didn't like what I was seeing either, but this was the way it had to be.

The Ashtyn that could see and talk to me went quiet.  I turned my attention back to Older Ashtyn and Jaci's fight.  I didn't want to miss out on anything that may be helpful to me.

"Don't mention that, b*****d!" Older Ashtyn screamed with tears rolling down her cheeks.  I couldn't help but wonder what exactly had happened between the two of them, and who exactly Brayden was.  "I don't need him."

"Sure ya do!"  Jaci told her smirking.  I think that in a way, Jaci was enjoying torturing her sister like this.  "If he isn't here your child will end up just like me!"  Jaci started to turn around to storm off, but stopped.

"Your niece  or nephew will be nothing like you."  Older Ashtyn said in an emotionless voice.  "That's one thing I will make sure of Jaci Cheyenne Tanner."  Jaci didn't even react to that, she just went up stairs and slammed her bedroom door shut.

Older Ashtyn collapsed to the ground and started sobbing.  Her black hair was a mess, and she looked generally lost.  The poor girl probably had no idea what she was supposed to do in this situation.  She felt as if the whole world had turned its back on her.

Present day Ashtyn started sobbing herself, and I decided that she had seen enough.  I started pulling us out of her dream and into the real world.  Maybe, just maybe this had worked.

"Is that really going to happen?"  Ashtyn asked gasping at me.  She had shot up from her bed as soon as I pulled her out of her dream.  Her black hair was frizzy and tangled.

"Depends on what you decide to do."  I told her in my best icy voice.  Hopefully it sent chills down her spine and frightened her though.  With my luck though, I would sound like a normal guy trying to give advice or something.  I never was the most frightening guy in the world.

"So it's all up to me?"  Ashtyn whimpered biting her lip and frowning.  Out of the corner of my eye I saw her alarm clock blinking 5:30.  She would be getting up in an hour or so for school.  "No one else has any say so?"

"Sorry darlin' but you're on your own here."  I told trying to not sound apologetic.  Devils weren't suppose to apologize for anything.  We only used the word 'Sorry' in sarcastic remarks.

Ashtyn fell back onto her bed which had tons of pillows on it.  I could hear her groan, and I knew that part of me had actually gotten to her.  Finally, I had actually gotten a point in this little game Arabelle and I were playing.

"F**k the world."  Ashtyn said after a minute and I began to chuckle.

"Sweet dreams, Ashtyn."  I told her fading away.  "I'll give you time to think things over."

Not confusing. I liked the dream, but felt bad for Ashtyn, not to mention Tad, knowing him he hated to do it, but had no choice.
