she and I

she and I

A Poem by Starbuck
"

queers fall in love an ocean away. suicidal ideation and generalized anxiety disorder distort the memory of lost love.

"
she---claw marks on her arms
scrawled reminders on her thighs
hollow tin-can laughs.
runs to the sea,
laps at the waves,
begs to quench her thirst,
begs to sweep her under.
carved our hearts on tree trunks
mirror carved out scars on hearts.
I---clean outside but crumbling,
fraying at the seams.
fill my time with coffee cups and
scribblings,
fill my mind with cotton and
melting wax and memories.
maybe the sea will sweep you to me.
stand on the shores and I
look across
there's an ocean between us and
so many years.
yet the words carved on your arms
spell my name
and the wax in my skull
melts into your visage.
