CaesarA Story by Shivani PanwarLove, knows no race.Every tick
of the clock worsened her situation. After all, nothing seemed to be her hands.
She has done all she could. The doctors have declined the idea of any possible
surgery because his fragile body would not be able to handle such colossal
torture. As tears started to come out of her beautiful brown eyes, she
reminisced about the day they first met. What a beautiful day it was. It
almost felt like the entire universe has prepared for the meeting of two
beautiful souls. She dressed up in her best dress. Why wouldn’t she? She had
been waiting for this day since forever. She has read a lot of romantic novels,
almost being a fan of this genre; yet always believing that nothing of this
sort happens in real life. But, the moment she saw him, it was love at first
sight. He was always deprived of such unconditional love; love that she was ready
to shower on him. With each passing day their love
blossomed. They had planned to grow old together. She was his everything. He
had that love she could have ever wished for. Everything seemed to be perfect
until the day she felt something on his stomach. It had an unusual feel and she
found herself standing in the queue waiting for his reports the next week. What
was enveloped was going to turn her worst nightmares into reality. Cancer it
is. How can he be diagnosed with it? How can god be so harsh on them? She wiped her tears off as she felt
him move on the hospital bed. The cancer was of last stage. Nothing but only a
miracle can save him. As she was about to drown herself in their beautiful
memories, the nurse called her. His doctor wanted to see her. Her heart sank a
notch lower. “Ma’am, he
is in ultimate pain”, he said. “I know”,
she said with her teary eyes. “Yes, and by
now you already know that we have had our best efforts put in to save him”. She
nodded. “I am sorry,
but it’s about time you make that hard decision”. She in a way
knew what ‘decision’ they were talking about. This indeed is her hardest
decision ever. “Okay”, she
said, with a heavy heart. The doctor
gave a look to the nurse & she nodded. She stood
outside staring him through the window. As the nurse ‘put him down’, she sank
on the ground crying harder. Her Caesar, her dog, her love, has been put down. © 2016 Shivani Panwar |
