NathanA Poem by MoonlightThis poem revolves around a little boy called NathanNATHAN
I sit on the park bench The wooden carvings Intricate and ever so beautiful I look at the sky Basking in the reddish glory From when the sun sets And drowns us in the dusk I sit alone and recall The other day when I met A boy not much older than ten years He sat alone on the same bench His shoulders drooping As his downcast eyes Burnt holes into the ground A little hesitant A little curious My legs stopped in front of him And I placed a gentle hand On his shoulder He tensed and flinched away From my tender touch His eyes looked at me Terrified Haunted Startled by the pain they held I stumbled back His face hardened as he stood up Slightly wincing His guarded eyes snapped to mine When I took his hand But I couldn't stop myself For I had never seen A soul so lost Perplexed he looked And scared he felt The blue - black bruises On his skin told me a story That he himself couldn't That day, I got a son And he got a father And even though his past Was filled with scars and hurt Even if the pain was excruciating now I promised to give him The future he deserved "Dad? Can we go?" I looked at the boy I had taken in that day A smile playing at his lips A sparkle in his eyes Eyes Once which were hollow Now held the dreams of tomorrow "Yes Nathan" I smiled as I took his hand in mine. We took slow steps Down the path, we had become Quite familiar with over the years We neared a gravestone that read "A beloved wife A beautiful daughter Julia Roberts" And in chalk was scribbled in Scrawny handwriting of a Ten-year old "A loving mother" -moonlight © 2016 MoonlightAuthor's Note
