A Doctor Who Couldn't Save A FatherA Poem by Moonlightthis poem is written from the point of view of a son who is a doctor. his only mentor is his father. he watches his father being killed before his eyes.Standing apart today, Just a metre gap or so. I can’t do anything To make a difference, Yet I have tried everything in my power.
You stand there, On the other side of the gate. The forbidden side… You look at me With eyes that say… “Son. Don’t worry about me. I want you to live a good life. The life of a good doctor. That is my will..”
I yell, I shout, I scream. But to all my protests, You just smile. I call out - “Dad! Don’t do this! You’re all I have left! Please come back!”
But then I see the spotlights spot you, And hear a sound. A sound that connects your life to death. A gunshot. You fall. Your glasses get crushed. Your eyes close.
My legs feel numb. My heart starts aching. My eyes get blurry. My lungs stop breathing. And my world lies devastated.
I push and pull the gate. Making my way to you. I fall… I drag… Not ready to believe, What my eyes see… What my mind perceives. I hold your body in my arms. I shake you… Try to wake you… Call out to you. Apologise to you. Cry on your chest. But you don’t budge… You don’t embrace me, Console me, And I , I am left alone. All alone in a world full of strangers…
Your face all pale. Your hands turn cold. Your blood smeared red, On me. Inking me in its dread.
A doctor I am. But, I could not save, The one person Who meant the world to me…
A doctor I am , Who could not save a father… © 2015 MoonlightAuthor's Note
