Mr . Pineapple man

Mr . Pineapple man

A Poem by Shimae Parks

Mr.Pineapple man what is it about you man
running into you like Jack and Jill
didnt see you yesterday kind of made me wonder for real
Not like I am looking for you or
Maybe I am but thats because I've
never seen a man like you
Strong, and muscled, skin that has been kissed
from the sun, the twisted hair that hung
that ever so often you would grab
and sung oh sometimes I lay in my bed at night
wondering if hes married, wondering if hes taken
getting up from my bed I snap my hand throwing
my hair saying oh sure we can date let me look
at my calendar if I'm free to date
then politely smile and giggle a little
then say you can pick me up at eight
of course it would be all night
but then my world became undone as my little
brother comes and smiles
yelling eww your in love
wondering if my age matters
I'm almost nine your almost forty
my mother says wait til forty then
some little boy will do you the same
what does a mom know anyways he's dreamy now I dont want to wait
My father laughs he says your nine
he says hes thirty and married and has five kids and one on the
way and so I look out my window with
disbelief for it was me that should have been
Mrs.Pineapple man
It was me who should have held your hand
It was me who loved you first
oh Mr.Pineapple man you have
broke my heart I shall surely die
in a distant my mother starts to cry
hahaha your funny child eat your oatmeal
eat your toast wait for thirty to come
as I seat I think to myself
what does a mom know anyways I'm torn apart
my world is in shambles
I refuse to eat
I refuse to sleep
I refuse I refuse I refuse to do anything

sometimes as kids we have a crush on someone
that we know we could never have but think I'll be
Mrs. I'll be Mr. But then when we get older and see
them again you wonder what was I thinking haha
hoped you enjoy the read.

I love the unique way in which you presented a situation most people can relate to. I don't know if it's because I 'm from the Islands and we have literal Pineapple men, but I could see the character vividly, I felt like I knew his Traits, but thats because of the strong emotion which the little girl used to describe him. I loved the repition: what do mothers know anyway? almost giving a hint that someday in retrospect the answer might be Everything! Awesome write Shimae

Thank you for your review somethings I write so many people look at it in all different ways and you.. read more
I can easily relate. I had a huge crush on Ricky Martin when I was young. Lovely poem. I can feel the innocence, the childishness. It is brilliant how you potrayed everything through the little child's eyes. It Is funny, entertaining, and I don't know if it was intended or not, but I felt that this poem is deeper than it looks, I felt thatthis was about all the stupid and silly things we did back when we were young and now miss doing. We can't fall in love for the first time again, nor can we go on crowning ourselves the mr. Or mrs of a stranger. There are only 2 things that I would suggest.
#1 add more commas and full stops and the end of lines, it helps connect the poem in a better way, and can be a huge plus to its positive points.
#2 In "what does mothers know anyway", change the" does" to "do", or if you want to keep the "does" you couldsay " What does a mother know anyway".
I really like the poem. It has layers of meaning hidden behind the surface, and the poems that achieve this always achieve a place in my heart. Going to my favourites!!:))
