Two Great Cities of Hope    9/30/09

She dwells in the city of perpetual light.
Born of those who are eternally bright.
She will continue to rule and undeniably shine.
Someday I will make her irrevocably mine.

Her place is in the heavens with
wings of angels wrapped around.
Among the powerful stars she is
home and unending peace surrounds.

Holiness exudes from her royal blood.
Always doing more then what she should.
Mistakes don't follow her where she goes
and she owns no shadow for she glows.

I live in the city of never ending night.
Learning to survive in the absence of light.
Clinging to the dark like a madman who is blind,
searching with unblinking eyes trying to find
the one person who can give me peace of mind.

How can daytime mix with night?
How can she belong to shadow and smoke?
It is but a dream and a whisper for which I fight.
Is it comprehensible or is it a very subtle joke?

I know something all the others do not.
There is a switch inside that can be turned.
We all have light within us but most forgot.
If only we can remember all we have learned.

I was there when when light and dark embraced.
I recall the feeling of naked hope and elation.
The blackness dissipated that we had all faced.
Our two great cities merged and melded into one.

Jamey,
So much intense contrasts within this one! It seems that all of life is full of hope swallowed and then reborn. "Two great cities of Hope tells this reality so well! "a switch inside that can be turned...light within us....light and dark embraced. So much terrific imagery that inspires, it is hard to write it all............Thank you for writing

I enjoyed the poem. You create situation and separation.
"I was there when when light and dark embraced.
I recall the feeling of naked hope and elation.
The blackness dissipated that we had all faced.
Our two great cities merged and melded into one."
Would be nice if the world would learn. Dark and light must work together. Thank you Jamey for sharing the excellent poetry.

As a movie, I could visualise it... The night and the light mixing up in an intriguing way where love and Friendship bounds... Cities that survive in dark and still possess hope for a new start...
So nice thought... Choice of words are quite interesting...
Good sentences and rhymes formed with a complete balance with emotions...
Nice work presented!!!

Yay! Thank you!
It was hard not to read this as a movie with that imagery and feeling throughout!
"She owns no shadow for she glows," hmm, great way of showing pure light. I love this poem, it's so easy to delve into and it's such a pleasureful story to read!
