Adventures with John in his Red Ford Truck, part 4

Adventures with John in his Red Ford Truck, part 4

A Poem by Shelley Warner
"

Another in my series of our adventures together. This one is from winter a year ago.

"

A Scenic Drive

We see the Alder trees,

standing together on the hills,

as we drive Hwy 12 toward Mt. Rainier.

They wear lacy underwear,

white lichen covering their nakedness.

Mist rises from lakes and rivers and ponds;

It’s a beautiful setting for a scary movie, I say.

We pull over; set the timer on his phone,

and smile for a photo,

with clouds resting above the mountains behind us.

Spanish Moss hangs from other trees,

I thought that was only in the South, but here it is.

It adds to the spooky setting for a scary movie.

The sun comes out and shines on the pine trees,

turning rain drops into sparkling diamonds.

It is winter in the Pacific Northwest.

Wonderful description of wintry scenery Shelley. Your alder trees in lacy underwear is knockout :) The rising mists from the lakes and rivers must have been quite spooky. I very much enjoyed this adventure you were having with John. Thank you for posting.

I liked the details of this ride and the fact of the ride. It really felt like I was there and saw what you saw and felt what you felt. Wonderfully penned poem. tyfs

Aww, thank you. These nature drives really inspire me.
I really enjoy when writing takes me to the places it describes. It is always an enjoyable journey to travel in my mind's eye and be a part of the world of others. Especially in their art. Wonderful work Shelley, thank you for sharing this poem with us.

Thank you Carlos. I'm having so much fun writing about my nature adventures with the love of my life.. read more
These stories and poems about your rides with John and vivid descriptions of what I know are beautiful views make me smile. There are no explosions, murders or treachery, and that's just what I like. It seems I heard that alder was good for barbecuing and smoking. Mmmm, now I'm thinking about smoked Salmon.
