I Shot the Sheriff

a short poem based on a classic song

Eric Clapton played through my internal radio today:

“I shot the sheriff,

But I didn’t shoot the deputy”.

 

I couldn’t help but think:

Well, he’s not such an objectionable guy!

After all, he only shot the sheriff;

He didn’t shoot the deputy.

 

A guy who would spare the deputy�"

Well, he’s really quite magnanimous,

Benevolent

Amiable

Genial

 

Let’s show leniency.

After all, he only shot the sheriff;

He didn’t shoot the deputy.
