Ode to my PenA Poem by shelby ferrellThis is yet again, another English project that is inspired from the writer Pablo Neruda, who published many odes to common things.O, my perfectly-pointy, purple pen, To many, you are just a polished piece of plastic; But in my hands you are my sword In the battle against literary conformity. Your ink is like black blood scribbling across the battlefield, Made of chopped- down trees. The battles we face together are fierce, Procrastinated essays done in the darkest of the night, Scribbled reminders in the heart of a barely touched agenda; But no matter how often you fight, you stand straight and tall. Your metal clip glistens in the sunlight through my window, As if you are trying to light the path for my imagination to travel. How beautifully ironic it is my dear pen, that you are such a Marvellous creation that enables my own. © 2017 shelby ferrell |
