How To Be A Woman

How To Be A Woman

A Story by Shea McWilliams
"

A story based off of Hemingway's writing style. A conversation between a couple over their struggles. Entirely dialogue.

"

"Did you ever doubt?"

"Of course."

"How?"

"That time we were at that restaurant, whose name unimportant, you spooke to that waitress and smiled. I doubted then because you did not smile at me."

"Over something so trivial, you doubted?"

"Of course. I wouldn't be a woman if I hadn't"

"Did you ever hate?"

"Of course. On more than one occasion."

"Why?"

"Because you forgot my birthday; you went out fishing. You went on a business trip when I was ill; you said it was necessary. I hated you many times."

"Over such material things, you grew hateful?"

"Of course. I wouldn't be a woman if I hadn't."

"Did you ever cry?"

"Of course. It's only a natural response."

"For what?"

"For the time you were in a car crash and went to the hospital. For the time you were stuck on the ocean alone. For the times you couldn't sleep and cried out in fright; I cried."

"All of the small things, you cried for?"

"Of course. I wouldn't be a woman if I hadn't."

"Harold?"

"Yes, darling?"

"Did you ever doubt?"

"No."

"Did you ever hate?"

"Not at all."

"Did you ever cry?"

"Not once."

"How did you manage?"

"Darling, never did I doubt because I knew you were loyal. I never hated because you were always faithful. I never cried because you were always there to comfort me."

"Even when we were separated, did you care?"

"Of course. I wouldn't be here if I hadn't."

"Are you reassured now, darling?"

"I was never unsure."

"And what is your answer?"

"Yes, Harold."

"Even though you doubted; even though you hated; even though I made cry? You still wish to marry me?"

"Of course. I wouldn't be a woman if I didn't."

LOL I can't use the word 'cute' here, but 'BRILLIANT' and 'cleverly-written' come to mind.
It's an easy 100/100 here and captures (in general) the balancing make-up of the sexes.
Thanks for sharing
