Don't Leave Me in the Dark

Don't Leave Me in the Dark

A Poem by Shayla Sayer
"

that fear of losing what you treasure in life...

"

Don’t Leave Me in the Dark

Walking, watching

Running fast

Trying too hard

To make the present last.

But each moment fades

Stars long dead

And unsent letters crumble

Words never said.

I’ll reach out and catch the moon

If you asked me to

I’d find the flower that had no flaws

And bring it back to you.

But the world would continue to spin

And tired, I’d be forced to slow

Then the present would slip by, now the past

So many things you’d never know.

Like how the stars don’t shine as bright

And the wind no longer moves my hair.

I sit and hug my knees

Knowing when I cry you won’t be there.

And how the night won’t sing anymore

The minute I lose you

And how I could run away, but never escape

And the mask I’d wear would get thinner, more see-through.

But most of all, would you know that I loved you

And you made the sun so bright

That when you’re gone I’ll blindfold myself

For I’d rather be blind, than live without your light.

And I’ll hide behind these pretty words

And dread that day, holding onto now

For the love I have for you will kill me, and save me

But with these memories, I’ll get by somehow.

I have to say...this brings back memories and even creates new ones as I dwell on past happenings and current ones. Your words are ones penned in greatness.
