![]() Some Things Are Better Than ToysA Poem by Shayla SayerSome Things Are Better Than Toys My dad is a lot like Santa Claus He brings happiness to those who lack joy. Smiles are hard to come by, these days And my dad is special He shares his. My dad is a lot like Santa Claus His laugh fills the entire room And even when he’s away The memory of his snoring Keeps me warm at night. My dad is a lot like Santa Claus Even though when he’s dirty It isn’t soot… It’s just dirt. They don’t bathe much there. My dad is a lot like Santa Claus He travels all around the world, All the time… I know, because he sends me letters Far off places I’ll never know. My dad is a lot like Santa Claus He brings presents to people all the time But he doesn’t bring toys He brings hope, he brings freedom And those are better than toys, he says. My dad is a lot like Santa Claus But he’s gone more than just once a year He sees other kids all the time And I am tucked in by a memory For my dad is oceans away. My dad is a lot like Santa Claus Except my dad wears camouflage His clothes are patched and worn And he jumps at the slightest noises For the enemy is always near. My dad is a lot like Santa Claus But he isn’t, he’s a soldier My dad brings freedom, not toys And sometimes I forget how his laugh sounded But I know he means the world to some… My dad is someone’s Santa Claus.
