Ask Not For Whom the Bell Tolls

Ask Not For Whom the Bell Tolls

A Poem by Shayla Sayer

The voices singing

The bells are ringing

Was there a baptism, today?

Another soul saved

Another line on the chalk board

Tally marks to buy your way into a heaven

That never truly existed.

Who was it? The peasants whisper

Who was saved today?

No one answers

For only peasants dare to ask

For whom the bell tolls.

Ruling figures make their entrance

Murmuring, for never do they whisper"

About what took place

For a being rose before them"

Always only in their minds

"and cried out to the brethren

Gathered before the altar.

Thou must find another!

Another to bring to ME!

And as another soul is devoured

They wave their books in praise

At the novelty before them

That will happen again the next time the bell tolls.
