Lament to NoneA Poem by Shayla Sayer"a war within"Lament To
None The skin
parts Cells
spreading to create a path A carving
in the flesh A
masterpiece on my own canvas
I shiver
but my body is not cold The pain
is dull, a throbbing And I
gasp for air Choking
on the stark nothingness
I smile
and my teeth fall out I do my
makeup and have no eyes I cling
to a dream of perfection Fed to me
by lying fat cats
I laugh
at a joke you told One that
I did not hear And my
mind races to find a word Countless
to add, one at a time.
I wield a
sword of cunning My shield
is pure wit And I
defend myself well Cloaking
the war within.
Just hold
me, and pet my hair Let me
pretend love is real But you
fade, a cruel mirage And my
tears join the nothingness below.
