A Story About Love

A Story About Love

A Poem by Shawon

I could start with a confession
Instead, I chose uncertainty, unknowingly.
You were there too
For a moment reserved your eloquence.
We both knew ours were not a love story
Perhaps, it was a story about love.

Behind light words are the memories
Good & bad both intertwined
And there were agitated expressions
Where I said, “I love you fiercely, irreplaceably
I love you when you stand there carefree”
Love is made of fire and blood.

You contemplated the moment and said
“I’m not yours; I’m not lost in you yet.
Though I long to be.”
You dreaded the moment
When I’d drift apart again;
Coming back meant a hard line to walk.

Love is pushed aside by doubt in its supreme.
I get obscured by the night.
But as long as men can breathe and men can see
Who will dare to grasp the thorns to crave the rose
Know that man would be me
Without any explanation, and shred of doubt, irreplaceably.

When you look at the dying sun at twilight
And the wind caresses your face, make your hairs go astray
Don’t you feel the wind is me?
I will be the reason behind
Your long dreamy gaze, playful curiosity
And the smile in your perfectly cut lips

I may not love you in regular way.
I will love you still when you are not looking at me
When you’re unaware of my certainty
I may write about you when nights get wild
My love lives in secret passages, in secret lines;
You will not know if you don’t look back every once in a while.
