Conscience

Conscience

A Poem by Shawna
"

Sometimes we need help making decisions. And sometimes you have to actually listen to that little voice of reason!

"

Wasn't there a voice, not so long ago,

the one that made you stop, the one that told you "no".

It made you wary of your surroundings, sometimes go out of your way.

It made you want to help people, regardless of what they'd say.

You didn't want to hurt anyone, or even see them cry.

You couldn't tell them something that you knew was a lie.

Where did it go, this quiet, whispering little voice?

Did you make it go away by your own selfish choice?

All it did was try to tell you what is wrong and what is right.

But you hushed it up enough until it was finally out of sight.

I hope you find it again one day very soon,

'Cause lonely you will be, singing a desperate tune.

Come back now conscience, help me find what is true!

That little voice comes back to say, "Nothing's wrong with me, it's you."

Will you come back, if I promise to do what's right and nothing that is wrong.

I promise I will make you proud, my heart, it will stay strong.

"Well I guess if you would listen to me, I could let you slide.

After all, I am your conscience, let me be your guide!"

I really liked this piece, you gave humor to something as dark as someone losing their conscience. It had a beautiful flow to it, nice job. :)
