Always Knew

Always Knew

A Poem by Shawna
"

My nephew asked me to write him a song a couple of years ago. He was 18 and leaving for the air force and it was about to kill his mom (my sister). This is dedicated to them, I love them very much.

"

Looking back in the rearview mirror,

I brush the tears from my sleepless eyes.

I see you standing there in the distance,

In your heart, you know that it's right.

It's time for a change,

It's time for this dream to come true.

It's time for a bigger transition,

It's time for what we always knew.

There's dust behind me now on this long long road,

It's dark but I carry your light

everywhere that I go.

Remember me for the child I once was,

But see me for the man I will become...

It's time for a change,

My dreams are finally coming true.

It's gonna be a big transition,

It's time for what we always knew.

You held my hand, you watched me grow,

Prayed with me every night.

Now I'm gone but you're never alone,

Mama, I'm gonna be just fine.

It's time for a change,

It's time for my dream to come true.

I know It's gonna be a big transition,

But it's time for what we always knew.

oh what an honor, I get the first review. well this was a pleasure to read. it is beautifully written. it is touching and written on a very rare topic (I can't remember reading another poem on this subject). that gets you extra points in my book.

Nicely done. Thank you for a great write.

My rear view mirror was looking back at my mom's house as she threw all my dirty laundry in the snow while I was still chewing my supper from eating with the family!! ..........It's tough growing up when growing up means getting older. That "rear view" is the epitome of reflection and maturity and holds our bonds with our memories like nothing else!! This read to me like a tribute poem to your mother. Beautiful Shawna!! xoxo -Mark
