You took away the innocence I had inside

Like it was yours to take away and keep forever

You never asked me how I felt or why I cried

You just took for granted that I would get better

All the years and all the hurt and I still see your face

Your haunting voice and your cold dark eyes

My nightmares still take me back to that place

It's lonely and sad this place that I go

It's where once I knew who I was

I still had my soul

What was it you saw inside of me that you had to take

Was it my pure heart, my naivety

Or was it my heart you meant to break?

I just want to tell you wherever you are today

You took what you thought I would never get back

But I have something more to say

I was stronger than you thought and I fought my way back

I crushed that demon, I rose above my fears

And I made a beam of light out of all the black

You no longer haunt me when I close my eyes at night

I no longer see you and your evil

Though I know you would love to stand by my side

To remind me of what control you had on me

But may I remind you

Everything isn't always as it seems

Goodbye now you sorry excuse for a beating heart

Your strong hands are weak now

And I'm not done but you know it's a good start

I smell your fear, your relentless worry

You thought you had me

Now all you can say is "I'm sorry"

Your apologies have no meaning to me

I just want you gone

Put yourself out of misery

I have already won

Victory to conquer our fears, anxieties, past struggles or addictions is one of the greatest feelings. You feel as if nothing can hold you back... not even someone that has caused you so much pain and hurt. You poured so much emotion in this piece that it was not easy to stop reading it. Triumph over the fact that out of this bittersweet experience you came out with such a wonderful poem.
