"

Story #6: Shawn and Courtney put off studying for a big math test just so they can hang out with one of their old friends who they haven't seen in 2 years.

"

"Shawn, what did you get for number twenty-two?" Courtney asked.

"I didn't get there yet. Did you get seventeen for number nineteen?" Shawn asked.

"No I got thirty-two. What about number twenty?"

"Uh...I just got five."

"Ugh! I got six!"

"We're in trouble."

"You just noticed that?" Courtney asked as she threw her pencil down at her book and leaned against the couch.

Shawn and Courtney were in Shawn's house working on math homework for about an hour. They are totally lost and confused.

"This is what I get for having a girlfriend." Shawn said while leaning back against the couch also.

"And this is what I get for...not paying attention?" Courtney said.

"Nice."

"Yeah. So how's Mia."

"Good. How's........."

"Do you really have to remind me everyday that I don't have a boyfriend?"

"Sorry."

"It's alright. So when is this math test?"

"Thursday."

Courtney sighed. "And it's Tuesday. That means you and me have to do nothing but study together tomorrow. Okay?"

"I don't think together is such a great idea."

"But I need you! You know some of this stuff!"

"So do you! So I guess we do have to study together."

"Yeah. Tomorrow. Right here. Right after school. No exceptions." Courtney stated. Shawn nodded.

~~~~~~~~~~
"I still don't get it!" Courtney said.
"Then just copy mine." Shawn offered.
"No. I need to learn how to do it for the test tomorrow."
"Okay. Then listen to me. All you have to do is--"
Courtney's cell phone started ringing.
"Ooh! Hold on, Shawn. Math can wait!" Courtney got her phone out and looked at the number. "Hm. I don't recognize it."
"Then that's a sign that it's no one important. Come on. You need to learn this."
"Hello?" Courtney said into the phone.
"Oh. My. God. No way!...Really?...How've you been?...I'm good...He's good, too...Tonight?...Yeah...
Definitely...Yeah...Sure...Okay...See you soon!...Bye!" Courtney hung up.
"Guess where we're going tonight!" Courtney exclaimed.
"Tonight? No. No. No. Not tonight. We have to study!"
"Shawn. Listen. You'll never guess who just called."
"I really don't care we have to study this math or else we'll--"
"It was Hannah Smith!"
"Hannah Smith?! No way! Oh my God we haven't seen her in, like, two years!
"Yeah! Come on! I told her we'd meet her at the park in two minutes!"
"Well then let's go!" Shawn said.
Shawn and Courtney both ran out the door and left their math homework just sitting on the table.
~~~~~~~~~~

"Aw. I love Hannah. She's the best. It was nice seeing her after all these--" Courtney said as she walked back into Shawn's kitchen. She saw the math books, open, just like they left them. "Oh my God, Shawn! We forgot about the math!"

"Ugh! That's just great! Thanks a lot, Courtney!"

"Hey, don't blame me. Blame Hannah."

"So what are we gonna do?"

"Well, I can't stay here. I gotta go. I guess we'll just wing it tomorrow. It's the best we can do." Courtney said as she gathered her books.

"Yeah." Courtney started to walk out. Shawn grabbed her arm. "If I fail this test tomorrow, Courtney Alyson," He said in a whisper. "I'll--"

Courtney raised a finger to his lips. "Don't blame me, Shawn Cole. Blame Hannah. Goodnight!" Courtney walked away and out of his house.

"Yeah. Goodnight, Court." Shawn said

~~~~~~~~~~
The next day during math, Shawn and Courtney were nervous about the test. When they got the test at the very top of it in big, handwritten letters read the words 'Instructions: Don't Fail.' Once they saw that Shawn and Courtney looked at each other. So they took the test as best as they could.
