Zeus and Achilles

Zeus and Achilles

A Chapter by ShaunMosley

Sergeio Polinski, the High General of the Euro-Russian Army was sitting at his Tele-desk, drinking his first cup of morning tea when his private line to President Khokarov buzzed.  Touching the button that turned his desktop into a video screen, he waived his forearm across the screen, so that it could scan his Chromo-Tag and confirm his DNA.  All Top Secret messages required DNA  verification before the transmission could be recieved.  Placing his right fist over his heart he saluted Khokarov in the traditional Euro-Russian way.
"Good Morning Commander,"Polinski always addressed President Khokarov as Commander.
"General, it is time to begin our operation in Asia. I trust that all of the details are in place and the Virus is ready."  Khokarov sounded anxious
"Not yet Commander, I have moved our ground forces into place along the border of Mongolia Kazahkstan and Nepal and our submarines are in route to the Sea of Japan, but it will still be a few days before we go online." Polinski replied
"Well I need you to get this done as soon as possible."  The American's have their election tomorrow.  And you know the Asian States depend on them for most of their security, so President Wen will be in California to see the fight.  I would like to strike when they are at their most vulnerable and least expecting it.
"Of course Commander, all will be as you wish.  The element of surprise is the key to the success of the entire operation.  They will never know what happened until its all over."
"I am counting on you General.  If the Americans elect Manning or Stone and one of them kills Johnson, then the chances of our plan failing are much greater.
"I will not let you down Commander, Polinski stated confidently before saluting Khokarov again.  Khokarov nodded his approval and closed the secured transmission.
Anyone who spent more than five minutes with Sergeio Polinski would know right away why he held the highest military post in the worlds greatest army.  He exuded power, intelligence, and competence.  Simply put, he was the most capable man on the planet, and he was only 33 years old.  He had graduated in spectacular form, receiving the highest marks ever, at the world renown International Combat Training Institute, or ICTI, in Antarctica. ICTI admitted sixteen new students each year and divided their admissions equally among the eight countries.  Applications for admission were by invitation only.  Only the most intelligent, most athletic, best performing students made the cut at ICTI, and this young Euro-Russian General had shattered every record set at ICTI in over 400 years.  Polinski was the Achilles of the modern world.   Which made Khokarov Zeus himself.
Polinksi downloaded the satellite images of the borders where his forces were going to invade, to his chromo-tag which was then transmitted to the frontal lobe of his brain, and within three minutes every detail of the terrain was stored in his long-term memory. Polinksi had secretly had his Chromo-tag customzied by the same scientist who had developed the Virus they would soon be unleashing on the Asian States, Sari Karjihainen. The other secret he would never disclose to anyone; she was also his lover.
They had met 15 years ago while at ICTI.  Sari was the other Euro-Russian selected for admission the year he started and they had been in love ever since. Sari was a brilliant woman and the world's foremost expert on Chromo-tag Biotechnology. He found this approach to be more advantageous than the holographic 3D maps they had taught him to use at ICTI.  It allowed him to strategically plan and implement his operations more effectively as his brain's activity wasn't hindered by absorbing and processing visual images.
He was going to invade The Republic of the Asian States at three strategic points where the border patrol was easier to breach, and the guards themselves, according to his intelligence agents, were lackadaisical and incompetent.  In less than forty-eight hours Euro-Russia was going to control Northern and Western China, becoming one step closer to world domination.
