Forgotten

Forgotten

A Poem by writerofshadows

I walk through the valley of the shadow of life
Through a forest of weathered stone
And forgotten names
Lives long since lost
But listed in memorial
Sadly forgotten
Unknown

How were they once remembered
Fondly?
Or was they're passing long overdue
Who were they remembered by
So long ago
Family?
Friends?
Or even enemies...

It is said when people pass
They live on in the memories of others
But what of those forgotten
Do they move into the lonely void of inexistence?
Are these overgrown paths
Crumbling markers
Rusted gate
And broken fence
Are all these evidence
Of forgotten lives

Those that loved them
Would also be long since buried
Those that knew them
And even hated them
All long since carried from earth
So who is left to remember them
Except passing curiosity
Wondering what may have been
And since they were forgotten
Is my imagination
They're new identity
Since they live on in mine own memory
