The knife of the backstabber

The knife of the backstabber

A Poem by Ashwin Shanker

A soothing blunt on one side,

But with a sharpened edge behind.

Sharpened by the mind’s baggage,

A deadly weapon, in a form that no one can find.

Unsheathed once a ‘friend’ turns his back,

To be as convincing as one can be.

Unleashed; then its swift in its attack,

Alas, such damage is inflicted, yet no eye can see.

If only we had eyes behind,

To spot the cut that bleeds within.

Behold the knife of a backstabber,

The deadliest weapon that I haven’t seen.

The deadliest weapon I have not seen... A silently cutting ending... Very succinct rhyme scheme choice, and it makes for a cutting display of talent on the backbite of betrayal... The damage is inflicted, but who can even see...

Backstabbers are dangerous. Hard to see or know where they are coming from. I enjoyed your words and thoughts. Thank you Ashwin for sharing the amazing poetry.

very true people can be cruel yet we sometimes trust them , believe in them and then the knife eventually cuts the heart.

Thank you for the review.
Back-stabbing is a form of evil or malice. Its only intention is to do harm to others. Nothing good comes out of it. A very fitting poem and I like the usage of the knife to denote that.

The pain behind backstabbing is expressed wonderfully.

What a very good poem. You express the power of that 'deadliest weapon' in a suitably forceful way. Your poem is also well structured, and a pleasure to read.

I can appreciate what you are trying to say here, but what stops me is you TELL it all, you don't give the reader a chance to fall head first within your words. I'd like to see perhaps a metaphor in here, or even the whole poem can be a metaphor. For example - how else could you say The deadliest weapon i haven't seen without actually saying it outright?

Try not to just 'state' what's going on - give us a chance to get sucked into the vortex of your words X

Thank you for the review Pragati
I like the picture. It conveys helping hand on one side; backstabbing on the other.
The theme and syntax is creative.
Hypocrites are everywhere...
Marvellous poem.
