Broken

When I was young, I was always told to be strong

to hide my tears behind a smile and proceed to carry on

"Pain is only temporary, it doesn't last long"

it felt like showing emotions was morally wrong

I kept everything inside where I was told it belonged

that lead to addiction a story in many songs

it took over my life, the real me is gone 

these thoughts keep me up from dusk until dawn

I feel so alone and trap in the cold

all I ever wanted was someone to hold 

never date a broken girl is what I've always been told

but I got high hopes and a heart made of gold

so I finally learned my lesson when she tore apart my soul

this structure I've built has now turned into dust

I thought she was loyal, someone to trust 

but how can you tell when love turns to lust 

I was her knight in shining armour but she left me here to rust
