My Desk

My Desk

A Poem by ShaneBerry
"

i looked at my desk today, and realized just how disturbing it looks, and i realized that to me this looked normal... is it a good thing?

"
My Desk

it rolls on wheels,
and is convenient no?
everything i require is right there in arms reach...
my computer,
my throat spray,
my wallet,
my knives...
my gun...
my pain killers.
cough medicine,
and sleeping pills...
as i pondered the wars that the human race has succumbed to over the past centuries,
i realize my body is a battleground.
medicine the weapons of mass destruction, but used for protection,
knives the weapon of choice, for the world is a cruel place,
gun to make me feel safe at night.
wallet to re-assure myself that i do not need money.

and the only question i could ask myself...
"is it a good thing the pill bottles are empty?"

Author's Note

ShaneBerry
now, to clarify, i do not have an addiction to pain killers, i have to take them for a kidney condition i have, and i have to take them very often. the gun was on my desk because i had to clean the weapon due to recent use. and the knives are always there.
but i started to think of medicine control and gun laws, and how they fall hand in hand. some cannot control their actions when on pain killers (it is the most commonly abused narcotic on the face of the earth) and if i were one of those people, whats to stop me from taking the weapon located no more than 2 feet away from me and hurting someone? or myself? (i say hurt not kill because it is a CO2 pistol for pellets to keep dangerous animals away from me when camping without killing them) maybe i am just over thinking things... who knows lol.

I didn't think much about the pills. I just keep pens, nail polish and coffee cups on mine.
Just as a side note you never said anything about the root beer. jkjk lol

My desk has over 100 books I collected and more things then I can count. A desk can tell a story about someone. Your is organized and neat. My desk look like a war zone. A very interesting poem. Thank you.

To someone who doesn't know you it does look disturbing and until I read this poem I was thinking what is this person thinking. Be careful with the gun and the meds together. To me this looked like a real gun. If the picture wasn't explained it could look quite scary to be honest. Glad you made clarification.
